A conventional brake system is composed of the disk brake (found in front), and a drum brake (found in the rear). These devices are connected by a series of hydraulic hoses and tubes, which in turn, links the brake to each and every wheel, hanging all the way down the master cylinder. The brake system also links the anti-lock system, parking brakes, and power brake boosters. Brake rotors are also among the chief operating devices found on the brake system.

Brake rotors are the flat, disk-shaped contraptions which take charge on providing friction surface for the brake unit’s disc brake. One type of brake rotor, the vented rotor, has cooling fins on its structure, located between both facades of the rotor. Now, every time the hydraulic pressure is used to the brake calipers, the brake pads are squeezed contrary to both sides of the brake rotor. This action produces friction and heat.

When you are to replace your brake pads, you also need to have your BMW M3 brake rotors resurfaced. Resurfacing is a process wherein the rotor’s surface is smoothed out by means of a machine, to provide an even workplace for the new brake pads. Your BMW M3 brake rotors must maintain their form after the resurfacing process. But only a small amount of metal must be skimmed off a rotor. Overly-resurfaced rotors may be too thin to handle the extreme heat during braking episodes, and may quickly result to brake fade.
